HER // PANASHE CHIGUMADZI ON THE TOUGH QUESTIONS WE NEED TO ASK OURSELVES AROUND MANDELA’S LEGACY

Panashe Chigumadzi, founder of Vanguard Magazine and very awesome member of The Feminist Stokvel shares her views on the problem of the Rainbow Nation narrative and the dangers of with the Santa Clausification of Nelson Mandela, the father of our nation whose legacy amongst his ”born free” generation is the opposite of what our history books would like for it to be.  This video is part of a feature done by the SABC to commemorate Mandela Day on 18 July. Whenever we meet, this conversation is always part of the menu of discussions we have between FS members, our whole existence is to poke holes in this narrative, that as Panashe notes in the video, sometimes serves to silence black pain and the black experience in post Apartheid South Africa.

Hi panashe although I caught only the tail end of your interview on SA Fm I was really really wowed. But why no Durban book launch? That’s so sad because people like me will really miss out on meeting you. O love your honesty and fortrightness on certain issues
